How to recover a deleted SMS
05Aug
The tutorial explains how to recover a deleted SMS: which hardware and software you need, as well as the principles that make this procedure possible. The tutorial uses the following program: www.dekart.com Here is a slightly more detailed text version: www.dekart.com A PC/SC smart card reader can be purchased with a discount via www.lazybit.com (see special offer in the top-right corner) The following article contains a reference list of phone models and their way of handling SMS (this is useful if you wish to determine if SMS recovery will be possible) www.lazybit.com

@123clickme1, it means that the driver is not installed. Which kind of reader do you have?
This is what I have. It came with a CD with a card reader program but that one doesnt work either.
2 In 1 Card Reader T- Flash (Micro SD) & Sim Card
@123clickme1, the device is not PC/SC compliant, hence it is not shown by SIM Manager.
This video illustrates how to determine if a reader is PC/SC compliant: youtube.com/watch?v=w_tcwmzUH6o
This is an example of a PC/SC compliant reader: dekart.com/products/hardware/sim_card_reader/
@ralienpp Thats what I was afraid. I read the comments Posted on my Card Reader and basically people who purchased it say it doesnt work. I just ordered another that`s specifically listed as PC/SC so hopefully I can try it again. Thanks for the help. I will Post next week after receiving my new one.
how long can i track delete text messages? can i recover text messages from 8 months ago? thanks
@WillKat66, the answer is ‘it depends’. If the messages are stored on the SIM card AND if they were not overwritten by new incoming texts, then they can be recovered even after an eternity.
So the question you should be asking yourself is “where does my phone store the texts?”
Take a look at this list: lazybit.com/index.php/2010/05/20/recover-deleted-sms?blog=2, it could answer that question.
If they are on the SIM, and you didn’t have new messages since then, recovery is possible.
@ralienpp I just received the new PC/SC card reader and it works. Thanks for the help.
please help, i have downloaded the program & got a pc/sc compliant smart card reader, i follow the steps that you say. i dont get the little icon at 1.27. the lights on my reader are on. when i click on ” read” nothing happens
@123clickme1
where did you get the one that works from?
when i hit the read button it reads the card but it doesn’t show me my phonebook contacts or my sms everything is blank except for “own numbers” which shows me my number..
@youngt29, sadly, this brings us to the conclusion that all your data resided in the phone’s own memory, not on the SIM card. SIM Manager doesn’t display anything, nor will it be able to recover anything – because there is nothing on the SIM to recover. It’s empty.
To confirm that, check your phone’s options, the current setting should be “keep SMS in the phone” (phrasing can be different, but you get the idea).
@ang8884, what kind of a SIM do you use (which operator)?
I also need to know which version of SIM Manager you’re running.
@ralienp@ralienpp its a vodafone sim & i have sim manager 1.09.
p
it says sim card can not be found
hi i have a samsung behold from tmobile …can i use this software to see my deleted massages ???… do i have to buy the sim manager or just downloaded
Could you give me the name of the usb brand or a website that sell this stuff
@pyrofrea69, unfortunately I haven’t tried it with this phone, so I really can’t make any predictions here. According to this list: lazybit.com/index.php/2010/05/ 20/recover-deleted-sms?blog=2, SMS recovery is possible for some Samsung phones, and not possible for others. You won’t know, unless you give it a try.
Check out where the phone stores the SMS, if they are not on the SIM card, recovery is _not_ going to be possible (thus you can use this as a test to rule out the possibility).
@isbtr, the device in question is Dekart SIM card reader. You can get it here: dekart.com/store/special_offers/sim_man2/
can both sent AND received deleted messages be read?
@goooogrrr, both. It reads the drafts too (i.e. the ones that were not sent, nor received).
@ralienpp ok. . I’m looking at the cell spy sim card reader beingsold by Brickhouse security and others. . .im not sure it reads both. . .do you know of this one?. . .or which one is sure to read both ins and outs. . .deleted
@ralienpp i didnt actually see you showing the actual text message in the video. . . can u read the actual message? or just the numbers
Please remember. . I have read that this will NOT work in Verizon, sprint. . or any phones that are on CDMA network.. . .AT&T is GMS. .that is the only reason i am going to try it on my target phone it is an older Nokia on AT&T. . .Verizon phones dont have SIM cards anymore. they have SD cards. . different.
@goooogrrr, the one from Dekart reads all types of SMS stored on the SIM. The possibility of recovery depends on how the phone handles the messages; you can use this reference table: lazybit.com/index.php/2010/05/20/recover-deleted-sms?blog=2
It is not complete, but it is a good starting point.
One more thing – you can buy the Dekart reader from Lazybit with a discount, so that’s another plus.
@goooogrrr, it makes sense.
If there is no SIM in the phone, then naturally, a SIM card reader is not going to help you in any way.
Note that there are some CDMA networks that _do_ use SIM cards; but I have absolutely no experience with them, so I cannot make any predictions.
I’ll ask a friend of mine about it and let you know what I found out about the behaviour of such phones.
@goooogrrr, you can read the whole message, not just the timestamp. The example isn’t very goos, as the shown SMS are sent by an robot and they say how much credit is left in the account.
